Position Overview
Franklin County Animal Control is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and compassionate Animal Control Supervisor to lead daily operations of the Animal Control Facility and Shelter. This role combines administrative leadership, personnel oversight, shelter management, and public service. The ideal candidate will uphold public safety, ensure compliance with all laws and ordinances, and advocate for the welfare of both animals and staff.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Ensure public safety by enforcing Animal Control, City, County, and State ordinances and laws.
· Attend Franklin County Board meetings to provide updates on facility operations, including payment breakdowns, intake numbers, and program updates.
· Serve as the voice and representative of the Animal Control Facility, advocating for staff and operations.
· Enforce laws with integrity, professionalism, and respect while educating the public.
· Stay current on all relevant ordinances, regulations, and legislative changes.
· Process animal documentation and ensure the facility meets Department of Agriculture standards.
· Oversee Animal Control Officers to ensure compliance with policies, laws, and contractual obligations.
· Assign and balance daily workloads among Animal Control Officers.
· Maintain a working relationship with the contracted veterinarian.
· Process veterinary paperwork for animals receiving medical care or euthanasia.
· Manage payroll, claims, accounts payable/receivable, and general bookkeeping.
· Maintain inventory for office and shelter supplies; place orders as needed.
· Schedule maintenance appointments and coordinate with service providers.
· Collaborate with animal rescue coordinators and external organizations.
Shelter Management Responsibilities
· Oversee daily shelter operations and assign personnel to designated cleaning and care duties.
· Supervise kennel technicians to ensure proper cleaning of all dog and cat kennels using approved supplies.
· Process intakes for all animals entering the facility, regardless of disposition.
· Administer medications, wormers, and vaccinations upon intake; perform grooming when necessary.
· Intake and medically process puppies and kittens with age-appropriate care.
· Monitor shelter inventory and ensure supplies remain above critical levels.
· Document each animal’s intake with photos, behavior notes, health assessments, and disposition evaluations.
· Determine readiness for adoption or rescue based on behavior and health assessments.
· Communicate with rescues, humane societies, and partner organizations to place animals appropriately.
Qualifications
· Experience in animal control, shelter management, law enforcement, or related fields preferred.
· Strong leadership and communication skills.
· Ability to interpret and enforce laws and ordinances.
· Knowledge of animal behavior, handling, and basic medical care.
· Organizational skills for managing records, scheduling, and inventory.
· Ability to work collaboratively with government officials, veterinarians, rescue groups, and the public.
