County Board Seeks Sealed Bids for Mowing - Franklin County

Submerged Vehicle at Rend Lake -![]()

On Monday, February 16th, at approximately 5:41 pm the Franklin County Office of Emergency Management and Communication received a 911 call from a fisherman reporting a vehicle submerged in the water at Rend Lake. The location of the incident was the Rend Lake Conservancy District Boat Ramp on IL State Highway 154 near Larry Foster Parkway. Numerous fire and police agencies responded. AMR Ambulance was also dispatched.![]()

Agencies quickly arrived on scene and personnel from the Benton Fire Department Dive Team, assisted by an Illinois State Trooper, entered the water. Soon after, an adult male was removed from the submerged vehicle and life saving measures were initiated. The individual was transported by AMR Ambulance to Franklin Hospital and soon airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office was notified on today's date at 4:30 am that the subject had succumbed to their injuries and died. ![]()

We are appreciative of the significant number of agencies who assisted in this incident with both manpower and equipment. They include the Benton Fire Department Dive and Sonar Team, MABAS Division 68/45 Dive and Sonar Team, Franklin County Office of Emergency Management Dive Team, Sesser Fire Protection District, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the Illinois State Police. ![]()

Fatal Crash Investigation - ![]()

On Saturday, February 14th at approximately 6:28 pm the Franklin County Office of Emergency Management and Communications received a 911 call reporting a traffic crash on IL State Highway 37 near Ewing Road. The caller stated that the crash involved a single vehicle and a bicyclist. Deputies were immediately assigned the call and responded. Ewing Northern Fire and AMR Ambulance were also dispatched to the scene.![]()

Upon arrival, deputies found the bicyclist to have major injuries. The operator and passenger within the vehicle were not injured. The bicyclist, identified as James R. Easton (43) of Carmi, was soon transported to Franklin Hospital where he was transferred to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Shortly after arrival, he succumbed to his injuries and died.![]()

The crash remains under investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit. ![]()
