Join the Team at the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office!The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified applicants to join our team of Corrections. There is no deadline for Applicants. A tentative test date of August 2nd, 2024 is scheduled. Applicants will be notified of time of test. Applications are available by either picking them up in person at the Sheriff’s Office located at 403 E. Main St. Benton, Il., calling the Sheriff’s Office at 618-438-4841, or downloading an application from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Mobile App, which is available on Google Play Store or Apple App Store. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is also accepting lateral applications for Corrections.Minimum Qualifications for Entry-Level Officers:High School or GED Certificate, 21 Years of Age, No Felony ConvictionsQualifications for Lateral Transfer Officers: • Employed by a Law Enforcement Agency within the State of Illinois as a Full-Time Corrections Officer for at least 2 years, currently certified by the Illinois Training and Standards Board, and in good standing with current agency. • Lateral transfers start between $37,515 - $44,045 depending on years of service, with yearly step increases. Two weeks vacation on initial hire. • Benefit Information: • 14 paid holidays per year, 12 sick days per year (can roll unused days over), and four personal days a year. • 10-hour shifts with bidding three times a year. Deceptive Practice / Violation of Pretrial ReleaseOn June 19, 2024 the Franklin County Sheriff's Office received a complaint from the American Legion Post #1961 in Orient. The complaint alleged that Nicole D. Keen (44) of Marion had written numerous checks in the amount $1,040.00 to the Orient American Legion. Each of the checks were returned as a result of insufficient funds. Deputies collected information and submitted the case to the Franklin County States Attorney's Office. As a result, an arrest warrant was soon issued for Nicole D. Keen for the offense of Deceptive Practice. On July 8th Keen was located and taken into custody based on the arrest warrant. At the time of her arrest, Keen was on pretrial release from a previous arrest that occurred in September of 2023. I-57 HAZMAT Incident Update7/5/2024 - 10:45 AM Early this morning a semi truck carrying containers of acetylene gas partially rolled over around the 68 mile marker on I-57 in the northbound lane. Crews are on scene still working to mitigate the situation. I-57 northbound between West Frankfort (Exit 65) and Benton (Exit 71) will remain closed at this time.
